Watching him perform live in concert really shows how much he loved what he was doing. Watching him perform reminded me of such greats as Angus Young and Chuck Berry.

I suspect he influenced the former and was influenced by the latter. Rarely have I seen a performer who seemed to be having as much fun. The actual movie gets a bit strange at times, but the version of "Tutti Frutti" rocks with a very young Elton John ripping the keyboards. For me, the two recorded concerts are the gems of this 2 DVD set, with the extras such as the interview with the drummer the only surviving member and the story of the restorations with Marc's son being icing on the cake.

The show had lots of musical guests and one of the things I found most entertaining was Marc Bolan's campy introductions. Plus some of the guest performances were very cool to see as well. The Jam in particular stand out in my mind. Regardless, the quality of this DVD is great and the BEST feature of it in my opinion is that the audio has been digitally remastered in surround 5.

These were mono recordings from television. It also contains bonus performances from other shows. Well worth it. You need a region free player. It took me twenty-seven years to get to see this film; in that time, production values in Rock Music Cinema had undergone a major revolution.

When you're used to modern Rock videos, with their very slick production techniques, this film will be a bitter disappointment - its pacing is slow, the sound distorted, the editing disjointed and confusing.

Time has not treated this film well. That said, there's a lot here for the Rock Music historian who understands the production values that existed at that time and place - other Rock films of the era "Ziggy Stardust", the live Creme concert, etc.

There's footage in here that is irreplaceably brilliant, such as the "Children of the Revolution" segment with Elton John on the piano and just about all of the live concert footage. There's quite a few glimmers of what a great film this could have been. One could be sad about the fact that this wasn't an early 70s version of "Truth Or Dare".

But this film isn't what it isn't. It is what it is. And the good bits are definitely worth the trouble for the serious T. It's good to see this available again. Get it while you can. Rex and Marc Bolan and the era in which they dominated the pop/rock scene in England; there's also a documentary about the restoration of the movie, and a selection of outtakes, which amounts to a total-immersion experience not only of T.
