Keith Giles. The Thoughtful Pastor. I remember riding my bicycle to a superstore in Colorado Springs and buying this and later hearing my father complain that I rode up on my bike "carrying another damn record under his arm" This is hands down the very best Mountain release.
There is no filler hear. The sound of the remaster is fantastic. Nothing else to say. If you are looking at this then you likely had the Lp when you were younger or you bought the sh1tty AAD release soooo - If that's you, buy it! Mountain was an aptly named band. From the imposing size of co-frontman Leslie West-I saw them in concert several times in the '70's, and when West would turn his back on the audience to tune his guitar or fiddle with his amp settings, you couldn't see the neck of his guitar!
It was blocked by West's mountainous upper body. To the overall sound of the band; massive, heavy, thick, but also very beautiful at times. The first two songs are the perfect introduction to this band. The album, of course, opens with "Mississippi Queen". Oh my God. More cowbell!! If you listen to this song at high volume while driving, you will feel an irresistable urge to press the accelerator to the floor.
Nuff said. Felix Pappalardi's vocal is beautifully done, and Leslie West's guitar solo is one for the ages. What tone and economy of playing! Most rock guitarists today play as if they got paid by the note. They could learn a thing or two here. As Louis Armstrong, another master of economy once said, "Some guys have to play notes to get one good one".
Of course there are other standout cuts here, the rave-up "Never in My Life", and "For Yasgur's Farm", featuring the yin and yang of Pappalardi singing the verses, and West singing the choruses, to great effect. This is one "Classic Rock" album worthy of the name. Play it loud.
ND Smart's replacement by Corky Laing really kicks the band into overdrive and the cd is chock full of goodies. Nothing monumentous or long here, but short snappy tunes full of dynamic drumming and great guitar This CD brings me back decades.
I owned Mountain Climbing as an LP record, then cassette both long gone and really enjoyed hearing the music again.

Today it's taken for granted that woman can and do play guitar, bass and drums in rock bands - but in it was an anomaly.
Here comes the first full length CD of a cool 4-piece combo from Athens, Greece. It contains 11 original compositions which lead you back to the Garage Punk of the '60s, the NYC Punk Rock of the '70s, and the Australian '70s and '80s revival sound! This CD is a great mixture of garage punk and power-pop and is sure to be one of the best Greek releases of the year!!! Rock'n'Roll dynamite to the max. DIG IT!!!! Their sound is like the Rezillos if their lead singer was more like Janis Joplin, with a touch of the Ramones.
