That being said, i think it very subjective to think that this middle zone holds no interest in itself That being said, i feel that perhaps Nada Terma is one of the most profound cd's that i have ever experienced. As Roach's approach to ambient music has matured, his compositions have typically [6] been beatless.

His rhythmic and trance-based groove and tribal-ambient releases, however, are nearly as numerous [6] as his more atmospheric releases.

Some recordings are strictly synthesizer-based, whereas others include ambient guitar experiments. Other pieces, however, cross over with more ethnic and folk influences.

Roach learned to play the digeridoo during his extended trips to Australia in the s, and he became an early proponent [7] of its use in ambient music. His work with Mexican musician Jorge Reyes introduced Roach to Prehispanic musical elements, which he has also included in his music.

The differences in composition are a direct result of the differences in interaction: While Dream Tracker was originally supposed to remain a Metcalf solo work and only later fleshed out, Nada Terma was conceptualised as a group work at an earlier stage of the process, when Roach was invited on board by Metcalf and Seelig. What one quickly realises is that the trio have conceptualised their journey similar to a live set and the way a jazz band might approach an album session: There are solos, duos and trios.

Buildups, climaxes and breakdowns. Moments of improvisation, compositional rigour and completely weightless drift. Passages of dense group performance and sequences, where each of the individual members is free to explore concepts of his own, only to lapse back into the fold. The notion of immediate, spontaneous human interaction resulting in a music as atmospherically tight and otherworldly as this adds an element of suspense and excitement to the unfolding: A single careless note could rupture the peaceful surface of this still ocean of sound.

As much as careful planning can benefit a recording, the process of collective creation can yield results inaccessible to the solo performer. Nada Terma 3. Nada Terma 4.

  7. Oct 21,  · Roach, Seelig and Metcalf came together in a perfect compositional blend on this album. It's a beautiful piece of ambient and tribal fusion. Starting out all ambient for the first part, it then brings in the percussive elements into play in well thought out album.5/5(5).
